This temple ruin is regarded as the biggest Buddhist architecture in Sukhothai Old City. Following the ancient Khmer’s concept of the centre of the universe, Wat Mahathat alone covers a total area of 4ha including many impressive remains. The wat is often well-known with its appearance on the east side, in which the main structure is a seated Buddha statue with ruined columns on both sides.
Also one of the noticeable temples in Sukhothai Old City, Wat Si Chum attracts tourists by its mystical aura. The most impressive feature of the ancient temple is the giant seated Buddha image with a benevolent gaze which can be seen from a far distance through a very narrow entrance. The statue is 15m in height and 11m in width, which surely overwhelms anyone stepping in the limited no-roof structure surrounding the massive Buddha.
The temple is a combination of Hinduism and Buddhism architecture. Situating to the South of Wat Mahathat, Wat Si Sawai makes tourists remember the image of Khmer temples with corn-shaped towers (prangs) but still shows the typical art of Sukhothai age. A quiet and less-visited spots that you can visit when in Sukhothai Old City!
Wat Saphan Hin is a remote temple situated on a 200m-in-height mount to the west of Sukhothai Old City, with the pathway from the mountain foot to the temple on the top is made by stone. The main part which still exists nowadays is the 12.5m-in-height standing Buddha statue along with several surrounding ancient architecture ruins. The vista from the temple is well-worth your climb for sure.

With a handful of ancient temples and monuments including outstanding spots such as Wat Chang Lom, Wat Chedi Chet Thaew, etc; Si Satchanalai is a great place for a back-in-time trip with the sense of tranquility amid the amazing ruins.
