Cheng Hoon Teng Chinese Temple
Established in the early seventeenth century, Cheng Hoon Teng Temple (also known as the Temple of Green Cloud) is the oldest functioning temple in Malaysia that is of great historical and social significance to the immigrant Chinese community in the country. Aside from an important Buddhist place of worship, the temple is also a notable landmark in Malacca for exceptional Hokkien architecture and high-quality workmanship of Chinese craftsmen with beautifully carved woodwork, chien nien sculptures, and decorative wall paintings. In 2003, the temple won a UNESCO award for outstanding architectural restoration.
