Cherish mystical sunset from Ukimido floating temple hall
Located by the beautiful shores of Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture, Japan, Ukimido – also known as the “floating temple hall” at Mangetsuji Temple – is an awe-inspiring spot for viewing beautiful and mystical sunsets. Being featured as one of the Eight Views of Omi originally drawn by Hiroshige, this temple hall was believed to be founded by the Monk Genshin in 995 during the Heian period (794 – 1185) to house the glowing golden Amida Butsu statue as a token of worship. Though rebuilt and repaired sometimes, it still remains the original construction and tranquil atmosphere at its best. As the hall has been built over the water, it feels like sitting in a boat when you sit down on the planks of the veranda. At sundown, the view from the lakeside is really a spectacular picture to behold.
