Ban Xang Khong is a great place to watch weavers and see how silks being boiled and naturally dyed. There are some local houses still using looms in the traditional techniques. Meanwhile, Ban Xieng Lek is famous for making traditional Saa paper from the bark of the Saa Tree. Visitors will have a chance to see the paper-making process from making the bark into a pulp, spreading it over a fine screen, expertly swirling around for perfect thickness then the screen is lifted and drained. Before letting the sheet dry out in the sun, the paper will be decorated with pressed flowers and leaves. It’s a great opportunity to visit some shops and bring home nice handmade books.
