Drop in old temples in Ohara rural town
Nestled in the mountains of northern Kyoto, Japan, Ohara is an enchanting farming town, famous for its rural scenery in autumn and typically the spiritual significance of its wonderful temples. Sanzenin Temple is Ohara’s main attraction and also one of the finest temples in all of Kyoto when it comes to sublime natural setting. The temple is tucked away in the eastern mountains with many impressive temple buildings, beautiful gardens and walking paths to explore. If you follow the lovely walking trail behind Sanzenin through the forested mountain, you will eventually get to the scenic Otonashi Waterfall. Other highlights of Ohara include Jakkoin Temple in the opposite side of the valley, noted for its picturesque stairway leading to the front gate and ancient Japanese paintings, and Hosenin, a lovely temple with attractive gardens that are great for tea time and doing nothing but feeling a profound sense of calm while gazing upon the greenery. All in one, Ohara and its tranquil temples make for a peaceful and relaxing day trip from Kyoto.
