Explore Velavadar National Park wildlife
Velavadar National Park, home to the largest surviving population of the rare blackbuck, was formerly the private grassland of the Maharaja of Bhavnagar, where he would hunt blackbucks with his famous hunting cheetahs. Founded in 1976, and nearly doubled in size in 1980 mainly to protect blackbucks, now the park covers an area of 34 square km that comprises two unconnected portions, an eastern and a western bit. Other than the exclusive blackbucks, Velavadar is an excellent place for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts as it houses the sizeable amount of bird and animal species. Jeep safari and trekking are the best ways to explore the best sights of wildlife in Velavadar National Park. Getting a view of these beautiful antelope up close if fortunate, spotting a lot of bird species or seeing several kinds of wild animals living in the sanctuary, etc; Velavadar National Park has something exciting to offer everyone. Visiting the park during the dry season is highly recommended as the area is more prone to flood in monsoon period.
