Explore Zhangjiajie National Forest Park
The Zhangjiajie National Forest Park or Hunan Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is a very unique national forest park located in northwestern part of Hunan Province, China. The park along with other natural reserves and several national parks makes up the Wulingyuan, an enormous Scenic and Historic Interest Area. Zhangjiajie, with its out-of-this-world scenery and surreal vistas like nowhere on earth, is well-known to be the inspiration for the blockbuster Avatar. The most notable geographic features of the park are the giant sandstone pinnacles or pillar-like formations towering throughout the area. Thousands of these striking monoliths are violently eroded into the valley floor and the moist weather all year round enhanced the development of plants on the rocks and the dense foliage among narrow summits, which makes Zhangjiajie look like a colossal towering stone forest. Besides boasting many attraction spots that are must-see places for sightseeing and photography, the park is also endowed with diverse fauna and flora, amazing hike routes, and temperate climate. Zhangjiajie National Forest Park was officially recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992 and listed as a UNESCO Global Geopark. The park itself is always a place of awe all year round, but spring and autumn are are best time to marvel at the unparalleled landscapes here.
