Have fun with whales and dolphins watching in Mirissa
Whale and dolphin watching in Mirissa is one of the most ethical experiences and exciting water activities for children and adult visitors during your holiday in Sri Lanka. Located in the southernmost point of the country, Mirissa is a hot-spot where an incredible array of sea mammals frequent its waters. From November to April, whales and dolphins migrate from the southern hemisphere to warmer feeding areas in the Bay of Bengal, which offers the best time to see these huge mammals swim and play in their natural habitat. Though the chances of spotting whales during this time is high, the experience is not 100% guaranteed as you are going to see wild life. The largest animal in the world, blue whale, is most often seen. You can also see Bryde's whales, sperm whales, fin whales, spinner dolphins, striped dolphins, and spotted dolphins. The engines of the boat are switched off and you will not be disturbing the whales and dolphins, just simply watch their pods swim along. The trip takes usually 3-5 hours and starts before 7 am in Mirissa harbor.
