Hike to Tango Monastery
Situating atop on a hill around 14 kilometres to the northern suburb of Thimphu city, Tango is a monastery near Cheri mountain which was founded in the 13th century then built in its present structure in the 17th century. Notable for its imposing frontage, Tango serves as a part of the Drukpa Kagyu School, an important university of Buddhist studies in Bhutan. In Bhutanese language, the word "tango" means "horse", which conforms to the main deity Hayagriva deified in the monastery. Tango is an ideal historic site for taking an easy and leisure hiking experience from the base to the top. It takes over one hour to reach the monastery, but the walk is well-paved by concrete so it is not too difficult for stepping. The stunning view of landscape and the Thimphu valley from a distance as well as airy and fresh atmosphere in Tango Monastery is worth your climb. All the monks were very busy with their activities but always finding time to smile & greet the tourists who pay a short visit here.
