Hike up for vantage point of Aso active volcano
Standing within Aso Kuju National Park in Kumamoto Prefecture, Mount Aso is the largest active volcano in Japan at over 1,500 m above sea level and among the largest in the world. The volcano consists of a spectacular crater and five peaks in the center of the caldera, including Eboshi-dake, Kishima-dake, Neko-dake, Naka-dake, and Taka-dake, the highest point. A climb up to the volcano’s peaks seeing the crater constantly emitting toxic gases is surely a rare opportinunity to any keen hikers to Japan, however, due to the recent volcanic activity from 2016, the crater area and hiking trails are often partially and sometimes completely closed off to visitors. Therefore, tourists have another option of hiking on Mount Daikanbo to its perfect vantage point, high above the Aso-san caldera that provides not only the stunning views of the five peaks, but also the picturesque landscapes of the town. There is aslo a number of shops, restaurants and cafes in the area where you can take a rest and enjoy some refreshments.
