Pay a visit at the Suwon Hwaseong Fortress
Suwon was one of four main regional government centers during the Joseon dynasty. Therefore, Hwaseong Fortress, built to protect the city, was designated as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site on December 12, 1997 for its historical value. The fortress was built between 1794 and 1796 during the reign of King Jeongjo of the Joseon Dynasty, encompasses 5.7 kilometers of walls and includes four main gates, watchtowers, and pavilions, showcasing a blend of traditional Korean architecture and innovative design influenced by both Eastern and Western military techniques.Suwon Hwaseong Fortress is a popular tourist destination, offering visitors scenic views, cultural experiences, and historical insights. The fortress also offers various performances daily as well as the Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival every fall.
