Sumaging Cave in Sagada
There are more than 60 caves underneath the town of Sagada in the Philippines, great for spelunking, but the most popular and highly visited site is Sumaguing Cave. It is also the largest cave, earning its nickname “The Big Cave”. Walking down the man-made staircase leading to mouth of Sumaguing, the cave is totally dark inside, making the visit a real adventure. But with a lantern or flashlight, you can see countless rock formations shaped by nature over thousands of years. Through the three stages of exploring deep into the cave, the experience can be a bit challenging for first-time spelunkers with many physical activities such as climbing, trekking, abseiling and rappelling. Prepare to get wet when you squeeze into narrow openings and soak in cold water. The whole activity may last around 2 hours.
