Take a boat cruise up the Kinabatangan River to the Kelenanap Oxbow Lake
The Kinabatangan River, the second longest river in Malaysia originating in southwest of Sabah, is home to one of the richest ecosystems in Borneo. Part of the river is a protected area, featuring secondary riverine forest and freshwater swamp forest with rich wildlife. Taking an early morning river safari up the Kinabatangan to the Kelenanap Oxbow Lake is the best way to experience the rainforest coming to life as the sun rises. Following the narrow channel to the large lake, visitors have ample chances to spot wild animals, such as orangutans, macaques, proboscis monkeys, crocodiles, snakes and lizards. This area is also a perfect site for bird watching.
