Take a visit to Angammedilla National Park
About half an hour away from Polonnaruwa district lies one of the newest national parks in Sri Lanka, Angammedilla National Park. The region was designated in 2006 to protect the catchment areas of Parakrama Samudra, Minneriya and Girithale irrigation tanks, as well as habitats and wildlife of the surrounding forests. The dry evergreen forests dominating the vegetation offer tourists one of the best wildlife safari rides in the country with the high chances of spotting the giant elephants roaming in the park. Exploring on foot or hiring a vehicle also affords great encounters of the exotic animals, such as Sri Lankan sambar deer, wild boars, water buffaloes, purple-faced langurs, or red slender loris. Lucky tourists can get a chance to see the Sri Lankan leopard, the jungle-fowl, or grizzled giant squirrel. Grab your camera to take amazing photographs of gorgeous scenery and rich wildlife.
