Visit Gangtey Monastery
The Gangtey Monastery is an extensive beautiful monastery situated atop a hill in the eponymous village overlooking the peaceful Phobjikha Valley. Established in the early 17th century by Gyalse Rigdzin Pema Thinley, the grandson and the reincarnation of great Bhutanese treasure finder Pema Lingpa, the Gangtey Monastery plays an important role in Nyingmapa school of Buddhism in the country. The venerable temple complex comprises three main parts: the central gompa (a type of Tibetan traditional religious building), quarters for the monk and meditation centres.
