Visit Gomantong Caves in Sandakan
Located within Gomantong Hill in Sabah, Gomantong Caves are an intricate cave system with two primary chambers, Black Cave and White Cave, but only the Black Cave is open to the general public. The cave system is famous for massive populations of the wrinkle-lipped free-tailed bat and swiftlets, whose valuable edible nests are harvested for bird's nest soup by local people. It is also home to a horrific number of cockroaches and parasites, giving the cave a truly creepy vibe. Visitors can explore the cave by a wooden walkway circuiting the interior.
