Visit Sree Aurobindo Ashram
Travelling Pondicherry, travellers will get the chance to learn about the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, a spiritual community located here. And the best way to know their history, belief, culture, and lifestyles is visiting the focus of community life, the world-famous Sree Aurobindo Ashram, that situates in the eastern part of Pondicherry. It is a main building, usually called simply "the Ashram", which consists of an inter-connected block of houses, including those in which Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, two founders of the community lived for most of their lives. At its centre, in a tree-shaded courtyard, lies the Samadhi, a white marble shrine where their bodies are resting in peace. The Ashram provides its members with all they need for a decent and healthy life. Various departments look after the basic requirements of food, clothing and shelter, as well as medical care. There are also libraries for study and facilities for a variety of cultural pursuits including music, dance, theatre, and the arts. Today, Sree Aurobindo Ashram has become a prominent attraction in Pondicherry for spiritual seekers as well as tourists. The visiting hours for the visitors are from 8 am to 12 noon and then again from 2 pm to 6 pm.
