Walk back in time to Edo era in Kawagoe
Just about 30 minutes by train from cental Tokyo, Japan, Kawagoe old town is an awesome place for a short break away from the bustling city life. Better known as the Little Edo, the town still maintains its historic appearance dating back to the Edo Period (17th to 19th centuries). During that time, Kawagoe was an important city to Tokyo for trade and strategic purposes, which let it inherit much quintessence of the Edo culture and architecture. Today, the main draw of the old town is its main street of clay-walled warehouse-styled buildings called kurazukuri, serving as shops and restaurants. Wander around the town in a kimono and you'll feel as if back in time to ancient Edo, get a taste of life from a bygone era. The street also houses a bell tower named Toki no Kane (Bell of Time) that becomes the symbol of Kawagoe. If your time permits, pay a visit to the nearby Kashiya Yokocho, an alley of candy and snack shops that surely gets your attention at the first sight.
