Walk into nature and serenity of Meiji Shrine in Tokyo
Nestled in the middle of a lush green forest in the heart of Tokyo, Meiji Shrine (Meiji Jingu) is a famous Shinto shrine dedicated to Emperor Meiji (1852-1912) and Empress Shoken, who helped Japan to become a modernized nation. From the southern entrance near Harajuku Station or the northern way next to Yoyogi Station, you’ll take a stroll of ten minutes through a tranquil forest and a massive torii gate leading to the main complex of shrine buildings. Here you can join several traditional activities, such as making offerings and praying at the main hall, buying a fortune or amulet, and writing your wishes on an ema tablet. Especially, if you’re lucky, you’ll have a chance to witness a traditional Japanese wedding taking place there.
